Facelift for Colombo ahead of Indian Film Festival

Colombo City is to receive model roads and a facelift coinciding with
the 11th International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA).
Colombo Municipal Council Chief City Administrator Omar Kamil said
during the last eight months there were some fast tracking in the
services of CMC such as road construction, garbage removal etc.
Rs.75 million was allocated to provide a facelift to the Colombo city
roads. "The 11th IIFA film festival will be held in Colombo from June 3
to 5. Many main roads which were prepared for reconstruction will be
upgraded coinciding with the IIFA. These roads will be reconstructed as
model roads," Kamil said.
He said main roads leading from the Airport to hotels, from the
hotels to Sugathadasa stadium, SSC Ground, BMICH and other locations
where events are to take place, will be renovated.
While there will be special illumination of roads and buildings,
shopping and food courts will also be set up in the Colombo City.
This will give a new look to the Colombo City, he added.
