Windies women by 6 wickets
West Indies Women defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets helped by an all
round performance in the opening Twenty20 International of the three
match series played at St. Mary's Park, St. Kitts on Wednesday.
Choosing to bat first, Sri Lanka struggled from the very start losing
wickets at regular intervals including four batters to run-outs. Left
arm medium pacer Shanel Daley was the pick of the bowlers with figures
of 3 for 14 with Stafanie Taylor and Anisa Mohammed sharing a wicket
each to restrict the opposition to a low total of 103 for 9 in 20 overs.
In reply, the hosts lost opener Pamela Lavine (7) early on for just
25 runs in the seventh over. Player of the Match Taylor then posted a
run a ball half century to recover the chase with good support from
Cordel Jack (23). The low target proved not difficult to achieve with
West Indies scoring 106 for 4 with nine balls to spare. The second
Twenty20 International of the series will be played at the same venue on
Friday while the third game will be contested the following day. |
