Oddusudan tile factory to recommence
Northern Province Governor Major General G.A. Chandrasiri said
Oddusudan tile factory in Mullaitivu will re-commence production after
two decades.
The factory was abounded due to LTTE terrorism. Reopening the factory
will provide jobs to youths in the area.
The Oddusudan tile factory functioned as a major tile manufacturer in
the Northern Province. It was owned by the Government. However, the LTTE
forced it to shut down. The factory ceased to function for over two
decades.
"This will provide jobs to the people affected by the post conflict,
particularly the youth.
It will also help develop their livelihood," Chandrasiri told the
Daily News. Meanwhile, the Northern Provincial Council has collected
around 6,000 bicycles 3,000 motorcycles and 600 water pumps from the
Puthumathalan area and kept them at storehouse Kilinochchi.
The Governor noted that the NPC in association with an NGO commenced
repair work gradually. "Around 300 cycles repaired in the storage were
distributed to the people of Thunukkai.
All recovered bicycles, motorcycles, water pumps and all other
machinery equipment will be repaired and handed over to the Northern
Province G.A. and A.G.A to be distributed among the people," he
added.(R.J)
