SLTB to employ rehabilitated combatants

Around 100 rehabilitated former combatants will be trained to be drivers and conductors by the Government and employ them to the SLTB transport services in the Northern Province.

Northern Province Governor Major General G.A. Chandrasiri told the Daily News that the Government is in the process of selecting 100 former LTTE combatants who were rehabilitated in the rehabilitation centres to employ them in the transport service.

"They will be provided driving lessons and conductor training to give them jobs in the transport service in the Northern Province," he added.

They will be selected on the basis of qualifications and skills.

He noted that it will open them a path to get back to a normal life and livelihood.

Meanwhile, resettlement of IDPs in Akkarayankulam has been accelerated. The Government facilitated the IDPs financially to establish their livelihood opportunities.
