President Mahinda Rajapaksa emphatically stated that Sri Lanka’s
growth in spheres such as education, health etc. would continue to
evolve in line with the emerging best practices and would not be allowed
to stagnate.
He was of the opinion that Sri Lankans, specially in the villages
should get rid of their laid back approach and should look forward at
emerging opportunities with new vigour.
He stressed that education too would evolve in accordance.
The emerging best practices English and IT will play a vital role in
equipping the future generation to face the world with confidence.
A stable and strong Parliament would help to accelerate the on going
development drive in many spheres and also would be a catalyst in
uniting differing sections in society on political, religious, ethnic
grounds etc, he added. The President made these observations addressing
a public gathering in Ambalantota yesterday.
The President told the gathering that a few years back Hambantota
district was considered an under developed area. “This thinking is
changing fast and the area today is destined to be recognised as one of
the most developed regions in the country” he said.
The district is the only one which possessed an international airport
and a harbour on the same soil. In addition it would also possess an
international conference hall and a Cricket stadium in the near future
he added. He also stressed that whatever location they are placed
airports, harbours, highways, electricity generation projects etc. would
benefit the whole country.
