The first Government sector solar power plant costing US$ 13.5
million will be established at Baruthakanda, Hambantota, said renewable
Sustainable Energy Authority Director Athula Jayathunga.
Japan and Korea are providing aid for this. The plant will contribute
900kw to the national grid. Solar power technology is important because
it produces green energy, he said. This is a model project. It can
encourage people to use green energy, due to the reduced cost of
generating one unit of electricity, he said.
The location will also be used as a training centre.
