Karu Jayasuriya case against Polls Chief:

Judge withdraws

The Supreme Court yesterday put off the UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya's Fundamental Rights case for April 1, seeking an order that the Elections Commissioner must implement regulations for the media during the General Election period within a week's time.

The Bench comprising Justice Nimal Gamini Amaratunga and Justice K Sripavan putt off the case for April 1 as Justice Amaratunga declined to hear the case due to personal reasons.

In this case Jayasuriya cited Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake and the Attorney General as respondents, Jayasuriya stated in the petition that the Elections Commissioner has failed to fulfill the promises made to conduct a free and fair poll at the upcoming General Election.

Attorney-At-Law Upul Jayasooriya appeared for Karu Jayasuriya at the case .
