‘Media Stress’ -

An exhibition of visual art

The concept “contemporary Youth” paved the way for the artist’s Installation art exhibition “Contemporary Youth” held in 2000. While accessing to a discourse on post violence, he discussed how far youth is recognized and given political freedom. Moreover his role and the contribution on the particular subject were highlighted.

Sudath Abeysekera

“David, Lotus and Butterfly” held in 2003 Highlighted creatively how the much needed youth for the country, is transformed to butterflies instead of great leaders and heroes, by the current political background. Media which has the potential to make everything in the world upside down, does not understand its responsibilities yet. To make public and those who engage in media aware of this fact, “Media Barbecue” an exhibition of visual arts, was organized in 2004. It clearly showed how, visible as well as invisible forces pollute people’s precious thoughts, attitudes and values.

Issues which were discussed via artist’s above mentioned exhibitions, have eventually resulted one of the most striking problems we encounter today; and it is the “Stress” It has embraced human life in a different form during current post war period than earlier days filled with horror. And it is quite true that the current political state has created it a dilemma. It too has created many shortcomings in media system today and the most shocking fact is the media’s exercise to disfigure the history instead of preserving it. In addition it’s amazing to see how media can convert truth to false and the same way false to truth. Some times it is so disgusting to see media‘s arbitrary efforts to brain wash people’s minds with certain political issues. Although most of the people are aware that it is the high time to commence a discourse in order to criticize this fact, they seem to be lost without having an initiative support. There the responsibility of guiding and providing opportunities for such people to protest, criticize and discuss such social issues without acting slavishly and blindly to the convention, lies on the visual artistes back.
