Among the issues discussed were the status of the GSP+ facility and
the future of the garment industry in Sri Lanka.
During the discussion Moragoda said, there is a golden opportunity to
rebuild the country.
Moragoda also explained to the workers about the importance of
country branding and was happy to note that Spencer Garments was already
successfully selling its own brand in the UK.
Sri Lanka National Congress General Secretary R.A.D. Sirisena and
Spencer Denim Industries Managing Director Dayananda Silva were also
present at the event.
Moragoda also visited a corporate social responsibility project done
by Spencer Denim Industries in the village and met residents of the
area.
"The discussion to retain the GSP+ has been successful and we are
optimistic that Sri Lanka would be able to enjoy this facility in the
future too," Moragoda said.
"We wholeheartedly appreciate the contribution made by the Government
and the workers towards the upliftment of the country's economy," he
said.
He also said that nobody should entertain any doubt about the future
of the apparel industry in Sri Lanka.
