Sylvestrians have it easy

St. Sylvester's College scored an easy 136-run win over Vidyartha College in their 21st limited over clash for the M.B.W. Mediwaka Trophy played at the Asgiriya Stadium, Kandy on Sunday.

With this win the Sylvestrians increase their tally to 13 wins against five by Vidyartha College. Three matches have ended in 'no decisions'.

St. Sylvester's College taking first lease of the wicket made 215 runs in 47.5 overs. Menuka Nanayakkara top scored with 47 which had six hits to the ropes and was compiled in 88 balls.

There were two good partnership in the Sylvestrian innings. First Menuka Nanayakkara and Dileepa Gayashan (34) put on 51 for the third wicket.

Next Dananjaya Athauda (31) and Faiz Ahamad (34) were involved in a eight wicket stand of 51 which lifted the score from 149 to 200 to bring respectability to the total.

Off spinner Ushan Wickremasinghe bowled well to capture 4 for 41 and was supported by off spinner Tilina Rupasena who took 2 for 26.

There was a collapse in the Sylvestrian innings when four wickets fell for two runs as the score slumped from 147 for 3 to 149 for 7 before the eighth wicket stand stemmed the collapse.

Vidyartha College chasing a target 216 were off to a poor start when the first two wickets fell for four runs and they never recovered from it.

Vidyartha were saved from disaster through a sixth wicket stand of 43 between Dinusha Gunatilleke 28 (5 fours) and Ushan Wickremasinghe 22 (2 fours) and the total moved up to 63.

But with the dismissed of Dinusha Gunatilleke the innings folded up without offering much resistance. The last four batsmen were dismissed in quick succession for the addition of only five runs to the total.

Off spinner Dileepa Gayashan took 3 for 16 and Dananjaya Athauda bagged 3 for 12.

Best Fielder - Niluksha Galapitige (Vidyartha).

Best Bowler - Ushan Wickremsinghe (Vidyartha).

Best Batsman - Menuka Nanayakkara (St. Sylvester's).

Man of the Match - Dileepa Gayashan (St. Sylvester's).

St. Sylvester's College 215 all out in 47.5 overs (Nuwan Nilantha 18, Menuka Nanayakkara 47, Waruna Wijesinghe 16, Dileepa Gayashan 34, Dananjaya Athauda 31, Faiz Ahamed 34, Ushan Wickremasinghe 4 for 41, Tilina Rupasena 2 for 26.

Vidyartha College 79 all out in 31.1 overs (Dinusha Gunatilleke 28, Ushan Wickremasinghe 22, Waruna Wijesinghe 2 for 11, Dileepa Gayashan 3 for 16, Dananjaya Athauda 3 for 12).
