Illicit liquor: heavy fines on two

Panadura Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake imposed a Rs. 100,000 fine each on two accused who pleaded guilty to a charge of transporting and possessing 3,600 drams of illicit liquor. B.A. Mahinda Thilakeratne and B.G. Lakmal were produced before Court by Panadura Police.

They were arrested while transport illicit liquor from Ja-ela to Panadura for distribution among kasippu dealers.

Meanwhile Magistrate Dissanayake imposed a fine on a lorry driver who pleaded guilty to transporting timber from Walasmulla to Moratuwa without a permit. Sampath Sudurshana was arrested by Wadduwa police. The timber valued at Rs. 285,000 was confiscated by the Magistrate.
