Increas in O/L, A/L pass rates

The average percentage passing the Ordinary Level (O/L) and the Advanced Level (A/L) has increased by 14 percent and 11 percent respectively, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said.

He was speaking at the Nugegoda, St. John’s College after opening a four storeyed building by President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the school recently.

The Minister said the rate of passing the O/L examination in 1994 was around 17.6 percent. whereas in 2008, it went up to 56.81 percent recording an exceptional growth of success at the examinations compared to previous years. The percentage of passes at the A/L examination which recorded an estimated 54.8 percent in earlier years, has increased up to 62.88 by 2008, he said.
