President gave leadership to defeat terrorism - Thera

From whatever political party I may contest elections I will continue to support President Mahinda Rajapaksa former Kandy District JHU Member of Parliament Ven. Udawatte Nanda Thera said.

President Rajapaksa was able to give leadership to the Armed Forces to defeat the LTTE terrorists that no other leader could have done for three decades.

He was the only leader capable of achieving rapid economic development in the country, the Thera said addressing a press conference held at the Bodhimalu Viharaya, Watapuluwa, Kandy yesterday.

He said the electoral system introduced by former President J.R. Jayewardene had distanced the Member of Parliament from the people of the constituency and strangely there were certain constituencies where there was no elected member. Therefore this system had become a problem to the voters.
