* Govt. Servants to benefit
* Service will start from Kalmunai town.
Northern Province Governor G.A. Chandrasiri said the Government will
provide boat services from Jaffna to Pooneryn, particularly for
Government servants.
Initial reconnaissance activities were initiated to envisage the boat
service project from Jaffna to Pooneryn on the instruction of Minister
Douglas Devananda and the Northern Province Governor last week.
He noted that the boat service is time-saving and less fatiguing to
the travellers from Jaffna to Pooneryn unlike the bus service.
People from Jaffna will take at least two and half hours to reach
Pooneryn. They have to travel from Jaffna to Elephant Pass, Paranthan,
Jayapuram and to Pooneryn.
The boat service will mainly cater to Government servants working in
Pooneryn. The decision to implement this project was taken by Minister
Devananda considering the time frame of Government servants who travel
on a daily basis.
Government servants like teachers, hospital servants, Urban Council
officers, Provincial Council officers etc. will be benefit for this
project, Chandrasiri told the Daily News.
Initially, the boat service will start from Kalmunai point to Jaffna
town by next month. Two boats will be in service to transport the
passengers. Fishermen Association in Jaffna and Pooneryn will assist the
authorities. |
