Battle of Kelaniya ends in a tame draw

The 22nd Battle of Kelaniya ended in a low scoring draw at the P.Sara Oval yesterday. At close of play Gurukula College who were chasing a victory target of 202 in 31 overs, ended the final day scoring 114 for 3 in their second innings.

Gurukula College resuming from the overnight score of 119 for 6 were shot out for 166 in 55.3 overs. Gurukula started off positively as Thushara Lakshitha and Roshan Anurudha shared a 57 run valuable partnership for the seventh wicket but Gayantha Anjana broke the partnership by capturing the prize scalp of Thushara who made a well compiled 59. Roshan Anurudha who made 29 was the next to go off the bowling of Shan Iresh who ended up taking 3 wickets for 38 runs.

Dharmaloka in their second innings fell in to deep trouble as wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals and they were placed at 44 for 4 at one stage.

Iranga Krishan, the highest scorer for Dharmaloka in the first innings continued his fine form and together with Pradeep Sampath rescued the Dharmaloka innings by putting up a partnership of 70 runs for the 5th wicket.

Once again Dushan Dhanushka proved to be the partnership breaker for Gurukula as he trapped Iranga Krishan lbw for 49. Finally Dharmaloka ended up all out for 177 in 48.1 overs.

Gurukula had to score an imposing target of 202 from a minimum of 31 overs. Gurukula were never in the hunt as they lost their openers for low scores. Skipper Sheshan Nivanka who came at the fall of the first wicket played a match saving knock and he was unbeaten on 63 at the end of the match. Ashan Dumindu scored 25 while Shan Iresh who took 2 for 30 was again among the wickets for Dharmaloka.

Thushara Lakshitha of Gurukula won the Man of the Match award while Eranda Krishan who scored 100 runs in 2 innings for Dharmaloka was adjudged the best batsman.Rukshan Bandara of Gurukula who had match figures of 7 for 89 with a five wicket haul won the Best Bowlers award while Rasika Kottagoda also from Gurukula won the Best Fielders award.

Dharmaloka first Innings 190

Gurukula first innings 166 all out in 55.3 overs. (Thushara Lakshitha 59, Roshan Anuradha 29, Shan Iresh 3 for 38).

Dharmaloka second innings 177 all out in 48.1 overs (Eranda Krishan 49, Pradeep Sampath 35, Rasika Kottegoda 2 for 22, Rukshan Bandara 2 for 41).

Gurukula second innings 114 for 3 in 31 overs (Ashan Dinindu 25, Sheshan Nivanka 63 not out Shan Iresh 2 for 30).
