Twenty three Lankans among crew of 25:

Somalian pirates seized a British Virgin Island cargo ship carrying a Bermudian Flag with 23 Sri Lankans of the 25 crew on board. The vessel was seized off the Oman coast Tuesday.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa said development cannot be confined to a particular group or a specific part of the country. “As far as projects are concerned I have to treat all districts alike because people from all parts of the country elected me for a second term.”

Govt ready to purchase full harvest

SLFP General Secretary and Agriculture Development and Agrarian Services Minister Maithripala Sirisena yesterday requested all farmers not to sell their paddy stocks to paddy mill owners and merchants as the Government is prepared to purchase their full harvest.

Highest ever interest for EPF

Increase of 55 basis points:

The Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) has declared the highest ever interest rate of 13.75 percent to its member balance in 2009. This is an increase of 55 basis points compared to 13.20 percent in the preceding year.
