Kudawella Fisheries Harbour heist:

Part of loot recovered

Tangalla Police arrested three suspects on Monday in connection with the theft of Rs 1.2 million from Kudawella Fisheries Harbour on March 8.

Police Spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody told the Daily News that Police seized Rs 716,000 of the money robbed and a motorbike bought by the suspects with the money. He said Police are investigating to recover the rest of the stolen money. The total money robbed was Rs. 1, 225,993.

The suspects were residents of Modarawana, Weeraketiya and Walasmulla.

Kudawella Fisheries Harbour sources said the money was stolen on the way to deposit it at the People's Bank by the cashier of the harbour.

He was travelling in a three-wheeler with the money when the suspects tied him up and took away the money.
