Use franchise wisely to elect qualified candidates

People should use their franchise intelligently to elect qualified candidates who could work for their constituencies and not to vote first and then to blame for electing unsuitable candidates, Mass Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said at a press conference held at the Department of Information yesterday.

People at the grass roots level, especially at the village level believe that the electoral system and the Constitution should be changed. The villagers were solidly behind President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Therefore they would give the UPFA a two thirds at the upcoming election, he added.

According to the Presidential Election results held recently 131 seats could be won by the UPFA. To get two thirds majority another 19 seats needed to be won.
