Program to build 50 new courts

The Justice and Law Reforms Ministry has launched a program to build 50 new court complexes throughout the island to enable the public to get legal services without difficulties.

The Ministry has allocated Rs 500 million for the program on the directions of Justice and Law Reforms Minister Milinda Moragoda, Justice Ministry sources said.

Justice Ministry's Senior Assistant Secretary W.A. Senaratna said, three Supreme Courts, 18 District Courts, 19 Magistrate and 12 Tourist Courts will be built under the program.

The Ministry has decided to establish new court complexes throughout the island because of the increasing numbers of court cases and various population density concerns with new police stations being put up, and roads being developed with new Grama Niladhari areas manifesting, he said.
