Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka predicted a high-tech
approach to development in the future UPFA Government after the April 08
Parliamentary polls.
The Prime Minister was speaking at a UPFA rally held in Narammala,
Dambadeniya on Monday in support of candidates contesting the upcoming
elections from the Kurunegala district.
“The UPFA requests a strong mandate from the people at the
forthcoming elections to advance development, supplemented by new and
emerging technologies, he added.
“Another major factor which the future UPFA Government would lay
focus on amending the Constitution and do away with the much maligned
preferential voting system, he said.
While identifying the results at the forthcoming elections as a
decisive factor for Country’s future plans the Premier noted that a two
thirds majority for the UPFA would help to form a strong administrative
structure, which could propagate the above objectives without undue
hassle.
The Premier was also of the opinion that the general public can
convey a special message to the international arena by casting their
votes in favour of the present Government.
“A strong verdict by the people would deliver an effective message to
both local and international detractors that the people were with the
ruling party”, he added.
On the occasion UNP PS member W.A.Gunetilake, former UNP PS member
Sudath Galgamuwa and a popular former JVP activist of the area
