Opportunities to apply for CDM's immense - Deheragoda

The opportunities for Sri Lanka to apply clean development mechanism (CDMs) are immense. Unfortunately, nearly seven years have elapsed since we acceded to the Kyoto Protocol but not a single potential clean development mechanism project has made a serious breakthrough said, Sustainable Energy Authority, Chairman Krishan Deheragoda addressing a seminar, held at the Galadari Hotel, Colombo yesterday.

The seminar was held in collaboration with Ecoeye Co Korea. Studies show that the potential for emission reduction in Sri Lanka is around 6 million tonnes Carbon dioxide per year, he said. Accordingly, a total revenue of over Rs 74 million per year can be expected from reducing CO2 emissions, he noted.
