CMC's anti-mosquito campaign:
No fee charged for spraying, fogging
Shirley WIJESINGHE
The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) does not charge fees from the
residents for spraying insecticides and fogging at their homes or
gardens in the anti-mosquito campaign, Chief Medical Officer of Health
Pradeep Kariyawasam said.
According to the Chief Medical Officer, these services are carried
out free of charge according to a plan. Residents should not try to
obtain such services on payment. Such inducements will harm the CMC's
planned mosquito control program, he said. If a resident wishes to get
his residence fogged, such a service could be arranged on a first
come-first served basis by a special team, again free of charge, due to
the shortage of skilled workers.
Complaints about the service or workers can be made to 2691922 or
2696594.
The CMC' s Public Health Department carries out chemical spraying and
fogging against mosquitoes in the city. Each administrative district in
the city has an office of the Medical Officer of Health of the area.
The operations will originate from these offices. Public Health
Inspectors and Supervisors are in charge of mosquito control in their
areas.
At locations where dengue patients are found, the surrounding area
will be sprayed and fogged on a priority basis considering the danger of
the spread of the disease. |
