Mullaitivu IDP resettlement accelerated

The resettlement process of the Internally Displaced People (IDPs) in the Mullaitivu district is being accelerated as 65,000 IDPs were resettled in Mullaitivu last week.

Northern Province Governor G A Chandrasiri told the Daily News that 65,000 IDPs from Chettikulam have been resettled in their native places in the Mullaitivu district.

Meanwhile, the Northern Provincial Council has taken over public health services of the Chettikulam division.

The Governor observed that the NPC under the Uthuru Vasanthaya project (Northern Spring Program) received a number of vehicles from the World Bank for Kilinochchi's health sector development.

"Five cabs and three buses were received from the WB to the Kilinochchi hospital," he added.

He said two vehicles and 100 tractors were also received from the WB for the development of agriculture in the Northern Province adding that the WB will provide more assistance to develop the agricultural sector in the Northern Province.
