Lankan gems glitter in Shenzhen
The National Gem and Jewellery Authority (NGJA) organized the 'Sri
Lanka Pavilion' at the Shenzhen Gold, Jewellery and Gem Show in
Shenzhen, China.
It was held from March 9 to 12 for the first time.
Over 250 exhibitors and a large number of trade related visitors
turned up making the event a success with exhibitors confirming orders
during the four days of the show.
Backed by the firm growth of the retail market and overall economic
growth in the recent years, Shenzhen is one of the cities in China with
a continuous production of gem studded jewellery to the national market.
Shenzhen is a major production city of the gem and jewellery industry
of China.
A large number of wholesalers of gems, jewellery, jewellery tools and
equipment producers took part in the show.
A vast variety of magnificent jewellery products highlighted the four
day event including diamond studded white gold jewellery, fashionable
platinum, silver and steel jewellery.
Prestigious Jade, Pearl, Diamond and a wide range of other precious
and semi precious stones were on display at the show.
The other aspects of the industry such as modern tools, equipment and
technology suppliers, advertising companies displayed their products
making it a highly professional sourcing platform for the entire gem and
jewellery Industry.
NGJA Chairman Hasitha Tillekeratne said the 'Sri Lanka Pavilion'
showcased a glittering array of gems from Sri Lanka presented by
seventeen trading companies which attracted buyers from China and
Hongkong.
The members of the Sri Lanka Pavilion were successful in developing
trade ties, securing orders for quality gems including blue sapphires,
pink sapphires and chrysoberyl Cat's eyes establishing its position as
the leading producer of quality gems to the global markets.
Many visitors including officials of the Chinese jewellery industry
visited the 'Sri Lanka Pavilion' and admired the concept of the
'National Pavilion' at this event and assured their utmost assistance in
the coming events in Shenzhen, China. NGJA Gemmologist K.L.D. Dayasagara,
officiated at the 'Sri Lanka Pavilion' offering technical advise on the
products displayed and information on investment opportunities available
in the gem and jewellery sector in Sri Lanka.
The National Gem and Jewellery Authority has identified the market
requirements of China and plans have been laid to create a strong
platform for fine quality Gems in the entire continent by permanently
placing willing Sri Lankan gem and jewellery trading companies in Bao'an
International Jewellery Exchange Center which is the International
Jewellery one stop sourcing center in Shenzhen.
A project of the Chinese government, which invests over US$ 30
billion for the development of the center, It is the first of its kind
to cater to the industry and also to develop the jewellery and gem
industry in China. Three other similar centers are to come up in China,
as well. |
