UN week of slavery victims

UN: With a comprehensive cultural program, the United Nations will remember this week the victims of slavery and the transatlantic slave trade.

The tribute has the slogan "Expressing Our Freedom through Culture" in order to reflect the efforts of slaves to safeguard their cultural richness.

The celebrations will include an exhibition of Afro-Caribbean food and music, the screening of the documentary "Slaves Routes: Resistance, Abolition and Creative Progress" and an exhibition called "400 Years of Struggle for Freedom and Culture".

The main activity is scheduled for Thursday with a solemn ceremony dedicated especially to Haiti. In the different activities representatives from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the African Union to the United Nations will participate.
