Dharmaloka-strong team

Dharmaloka College, Kelaniya under 19 team have played nine matches and scored one outright win over St. Xavier’s College , Marawila. They have scored first innings wins over Ibbagamuwa Central College, St. Anthony’s College, Wattala, and St. Patrick College, Jaffna in the current season.


Iranga Kishan Captain

Dharmaloka is a Buddhist English school established in Peliyagoda in 1938 under the patronage of Vidyalankara Piriwena. It was named Dharmaloka after the founder of the pirivena Dharmaloka Thera.

Looking at the past performances of Dharmaloka College, The under 19 team qualified to the third place in division II ‘B’ category, under 15 team qualified for division II semi-finals in 2009.

This year Dharmaloka College is led by Iranga Kishan, an all rounder who will be playing in his sixth Big Match. The school Principal is A.G Nimal Jayaweera, E.D.A.K Wickramasinghe is the master in charge of the team and Udaya Perera the coach who has done a fine job in fine tuning the side.

Dharmaloka skipper Iranga Kishan has scored 644 runs including one century and five half centuries. He is the wicket keeper of the side. Nilanka Suboda has scored 349 runs including one century and one half century and done equally well with the ball claiming 17 wickets in the current season. He is the captain of the under 17 team.

Fourth year player Chathuranga Lakmina has also taken 17 wickets and scored 147 runs. Right hand batsman Sulaj Gayashan has scored 230 runs including two half centuries.

The school playing in division II. But cricket really begins at the school from the level of under-13 as the past records at school point out. The Principal of Dharmaloka College, A.G Nial Jayaweera said that he would extend his maximum support to improve the standards of the school team.

According to Udaya Perera, the coach, the team has performed creditably well and gained much experience. E.D.A.K Wickramasinghe (Senior Master in charge) and Nishantha De Alwis is the Junior Master in charge.

The Old Boys Association and also another organization called Parents Cricketers Association to look into the welfare of the Cricketers and thereby improve the quality of cricket at the school. Cricket was introduced to Dharmaloka College in 1985.

They have played nine matches this season - Carey College, Colombo, St. Anthony’s College, Wattala, St. Thomas College, Matale, St. Servatius, Matara, Bandaranayake College,Gampaha, St. Xavier’s College, Marawila, Ibbagamuwa Central College, St. Patrick’s College, Jaffna. St. Sebastian’s College, Katuneriya.
