Attack on Sirasa:

16 suspects in custody

The Slave Island Police yesterday took into custody 16 suspects who are alleged to have damaged the buildings of Sirasa head office at Braybrook Place, Hunupitiya, Colombo 2.

According to an eye witness several vehicles including two CTB buses, had come near the Sirasa head office and attacked the buildings and the employees who were inside the office with stones and other items at about 3.30 p.m. yesterday.

The suspects who were arrested had damaged the vehicles parked out side the Sirasa head office, the police said. Police spokesman SP Priyasantha Jayakody said that a special police team had been deployed to conduct investigations into the attack on Sirasa head office.

Minister Milinda Moragoda, Parliamentarian John Amaratunga, Asaad Sally and several MP visited the scene immediately after the incident.
