Tissamaharamaya PS respondents told to appear before Court

The Court of Appeal yesterday issued a notice to all respondents in
the Tissamaharamaya Pradeshiya Sabha to appear before Court on May 5.
The reason being with regard to a petition filed by the Tissamaharamaya
Pradeshiya Sabha President seeking a Writ of Prohibition against his
removal from the Southern Provincial Council.
The Bench comprised Appeal Court President Justice Sathya Hettige who
issued a notice to all respondents to appear before the Court before
pursuing the case.
Petitioner H.L Jayasiri said first respondent Southern Provincial
Council Chief Minister Shan Wijayalal de Silva suspended him from the
position of Tissamaharamaya Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman.
Therefore, all functions in the Pradeshiya Sabha have come to a
standstill. The petitioner stated that the move was arbitrary, mala fide
and unreasonable and sought a Writ of Prohibition on his suspension.
Attorney-At -Law Saliya Peiris appeared for the petitioner. |
