FEB nets Rs 500 b revenue

The Foreign Employment Bureau (FEB) netted in a revenue of Rs. 500 billion from 2008 and 2009. This figure is above the previous Rs. 50 billion before 2008, SLBFE Chairman Kingsly Ranawaka said.

The Chairman attributed this massive income gain to the increased trend of skilled male migration during the period.

“We were able to bring down women’s departure by 48 percent last year. This was compensated by skilled males going for jobs abroad,” the chairman said. Ranawaka speaking at a function in Tangalle where he laid the foundation stone for a new district office at a cost of Rs. 100 million, said plans were underway to increase the benefits granted to migrant workers and their children.
