Circuit Magistrates Court in Delft

Chief Justice Asok de Silva opened a circuit magistrate’s court in Delft. It was opened after thirty years. Supreme Court Judges A.R.N. Gamini Amaratunge, J.D.S. Balapatabendi and Kayts Magistrate R. Vasanthasenen were associated with the Chief Justice at the opening ceremony. High Court Judge R.T. Vignarajah presided at the opening ceremony.

The litigants of the islands division transacted their legal problems at the Kayts magistrate’s court which was the apex court in the island’s division. Now with the opening of a circuit court in Delft the people can attend to their legal problems at the Delft circuit magistrate’s court.

It may be recalled that three decades back a circuit magistrate’s court functioned in Delft. It is understood that this circuit court will hold its session every month in Delft.
