Govt will reject alleged war crimes committee
The Government will firmly reject all attempts made by LTTE-friendly
international organisations to appoint a committee to investigate
alleged war crimes in the country, said Disaster Relief and Human Rights
Minister and Kalutara District UPFA candidate Mahinda Samarasingha at an
election rally in Bandaragama recently.
Samarasingha said the Government never left any room for human rights
violations during the humanitarian war fought to liberate the North from
the terrorist menace.
The international community should appreciate the success achieved by
Sri Lanka in overcoming an internal conflict and defeating terrorism. If
it tried to belittle such efforts through deceit it would amount to
interference in internal affairs of a sovereign nation.
Samarasinghe said President Mahinda Rajapaksa during his telephone
conversation with UN Secretary General Ban-ki-Moon had firmly rejected
any moves to appoint an advisory panel on alleged human rights
violations. Former Bandaragama Pradesheeya Sabha Member Sandun Pathirana
also spoke. |
