The National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol (NATA) has contributed
much for the decrease in the country's alcohol and tobacco consumption.
This has led to even death threats becoming a common incidence to
members of the organization, said Director Professor Carlo Fonseka.
He was speaking at the unveiling of a billboard to enlighten the
public on the dangers of smoking, in Kiribathgoda on Tuesday.
NATA coordinator Dr. Prassanna Cooray received a death threat on
Monday warning him to halt NATA's activities at the cost of his life.
Police are investigating the incident.
A series of activities promoting the anti smoking movement was also
carried out simultaneously. The board was unveiled in the presence of
Dr. Carlo Fonseka and Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera. |
