Industry experts to strengthen CODL
Epic Lanka Vice President Shanta R Yapa and Virtusa Corporation
General Manager Madu Ratnayake, have been appointed to the Board of
Management of Center for Open and Distance Learning (CODL) of the
Moratuwa University. They will represent SLASI, the Software Chapter of
the Federation of IT Industry (FITIS) and SLASSCOM, the national IT/BPO
industry chamber, respectively.
According to CODL Chairman Dr Sanath Jayasena, they currently offer
diploma and degree programs on distant mode where a large number of
students from all over the country receive access to university
education in the highly demanded disciplines. The Bachelor of
Information Technology (BIT) degree offered by CODL has become very
popular among the young generation aspiring to acquire a degree from a
globally recognized national university. Moratuwa University has
strengthened its relationship with industry to create synergies. SLASI
and SLASSCOM will assist the university in curricula development,
research and knowledge transfer for mutual benefits.
The newly appointed board members possessing substantial experience
in industry will assist the CODL to bridge the gap between the
university and industry through the collective strengths of their
associations. This will enable the CODL to align their courses with
industry demands to increase the employability of graduates and their
productivity. The BIT degree program would address the prevailing gap
between the supply and demand in the IT industry. |
