Rs 7,000 m to provide NCP electricity

The cabinet has approved to Rs. 7,000m to the North Central province
for electricity supply said North Central Chief Minister Berty Premalal
Dissanayake addressing a group of UPFA activists in Anuradhapura (east)
electorate recently.
The Chief Minister said by 2012, every village in the province will
entertain electricity facilities. Rs. 200 million has been allocated for
upgrading rural roads.
"The availability of quality road network and power in the village
sector pave the way for overall development, he said.
Program to trace Archaeological sites

The Cultural Affairs and National Heritage Ministry has launched a
program to trace archaeological sties scattered in all parts of the
country.
The project's objective is to prepare an inventory of all ancient
sites and monuments in Sri Lanka, a Ministry Official told the Daily
News.
Multi media courses at SLIOP
The Sri Lanka Institute of Printing (SLIOP) under the Mass Media and
Information Ministry has called for applications for study programs in
multi-media technology which begins in the latter part of April, 2010.

A special service with features on Supernatural encounters will be

Police to remove posters

Cutouts and posters displayed by political parties in contravention
of election laws will be removed if requests to party agents to remove
them go unheeded, Anuradhapura SSP Mervyn Karunaratne said.
The SSP made this request at a discussion held at the Anuradhapura
District Secretariat recently.
Largest heroin haul in Muthupanthiya
The Police Narcotics Bureau yesterday recovered packets of heroin
weighing over 40 kg from a prawn farm belonging to a drug baron in
Muthupanthiya.
This is the largest stock of heroin found by Police. Police earlier
recovered over 30 kgs of heroin which the suspect had brought from
Kirikalliya in Mundalama. The packets of heroin weighing 40 kgs were
recovered on information given by the suspect during interrogation.
According to a senior Police official, the Bureau had received
information that the suspect was trying to flee the country to evade
arrest. Police arrested the suspect at the Bandaranaike International
Airport.
GCE O/L results out in April

The results of the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination 2009 will
probably be issued by the second week of April, Examinations
Commissioner General Anura Edirisinghe said.
The practical tests for aesthetic subjects of the Examination have
been completed. The Examinations Department is now finalising the result
issuing process, the Commissioner added. The examination commenced on
December 12.
Child needs help for bone marrow transplant
Wannakawatta Waduge Senethmi Paramee Fernando, 5, of No. 33,
Kithalandaluwa, 2nd Lane, Willorawatte, Moratuwa, is in urgent need of a
allogenic bone marrow transplant.
The surgery will be performed at the Christian Medical College,
Vellore, India. The cost of the surgery is Rs. 4 million. Contributions

Mahasivarathri observance in Mannar
The All Ceylon Hindu Congress and Thirukeeheeswaram Temple
Restoration Society with the assistance of the Indian Government and
Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka will celebrate Mahasivarathri at the
Thirukeetheeswaram temple, Mannar tomorrow.
All Ceylon Hindu Congress President V. Kailasapillai, who is also
Thirukeetheeswaram Temple Board of Trustees Chairman with the
sponsorship of the High Commission for India in Sri Lanka has arranged
devotional singers from India to participate in the Mahasivarathri
festival.
One musician is Shrimathi Vijayalakshmi (also known as Vijayalakshmi
Rajaram in music circles).
The other musician is Shrimathi Meenakshi Srinivaasan.
Revised Sinhala study Bible set launch
The Sinhala Bible (printed in 1938) large print second edition and
the revised Sinhala study Bible set will be launched on March 16, at 10
a.m. at the Ceylon Bible Society Auditorium, "Bible House' No. 293,

Discussion on Weerawansa's book
A scholarly discussion on the book Garu Kathanayakathumani written by
Parliamentarian and National Freedom Front Leader Wimal Weerawansa will
be aired over ITN today at 11.00 a.m.
Senior lecturers Attanayake, M. Herath and Dhamma Dissanayake will be
featured.

Alleged assault on police: Ex-UNP MP arrested
Kahawatte Police yesterday arrested former Ratnapura district UNP
Parliamentarian Dunesh Gankanda who allegedly assaulted four policemen
while on duty at Kahawatte.
He was among a mob who assaulted the four Policemen. According to
Police Spokesman SP Priyashantha Jayakody these Police officials were
attacked when they were removing banners and cutouts erected by
candidates in contravention of election regulations.
Three policemen with injuries were admitted to Kahawatte Hospital.
