LLF supports constitutional change

The Left Liberation Front (LLF) stated that it would support any constitutional change abolishing Executive Presidency, given that power sharing is maximized.

Dr. Karunaratne said a two thirds majority is not essential for a constitutional change. All major political parties have opposed the current constitution. A just and fair constitution would gain the approval of all.

Through the attempt to achieve a two thirds majority, the Government is in a struggle to confirm their dictatorship, he said.

"Sri Lanka, in contrast to Cuba, is not a country that totally clashes with the interests of the West. The Government receives massive amounts of loans, even more than in the UNP era. The war was carried out with the blessings of the West. Today Western democracies are pressured by their own people. They just want to show they are taking some action." Their interest in the condition of Sri Lanka is superficial.
