He was addressing a meeting held to distribute computers among
schools in the Horana Zonal education division yesterday.
A day has been declared as the Day of Women to protect the rights of
women in the world. But Sri Lanka made an example to give them the due
place by electing the First Woman Prime Minister in the world. Any other
country doesn't need teach Sri Lanka about the rights of women since our
culture and society are duty bound evolved after adhering to Buddhist
tenets, he added.
Computer units set up at three schools which were to be closed in
Horana were opened by the Prime Minister. The Maliban Institute and
foreign philanthropists sponsored this. The aim of this project is to
protect the schools of being closed in the division and to rejuvenate
them with latest technology. The Prime Minister said," the UN secretary
has become a challenge for the country". This is a small country. That
does not produce nuclear weapons. The country does not remain in the
category of powerful nations. But Sri Lanka inherited a proud,
righteous, civilized ancient culture in which humanity being become the
centric and pivotal. It was crowned with morality, discipline and just,
he said.
This tiny island is treading towards rapid development and the
interference of the UN secretary is a clear indication of trying to stop
this development. There was a policy earlier that the country danced to
the tune of foreign countries. They must understand that Sri Lanka is
sovereign country and a country that knows difference of just and
unjust, he said.
Wickramanayaka said computer knowledge is badly need to society and
schoolchildren should be equipped with computer literacy. When the world
is moving with technology the people have to follow them to compete with
others. English education should be encouraged among students the Prime
Minister said.
