One km sea swim on Saturday

The inaugural Inter club Masters one Kilometer Sea swim will be held this Saturday opposite the Mount Lavinia Hotel. This competition which is exclusively for Masters swimmers is organized by the Rainbow Aquatic Club and is sponsored by the Mount Lavinia Hotel.

Registrations for the Masters tournament will start at 7.30 am at the registration desk situated in the North lawn of the Mount Lavinia Hotel and the race will commence at 8.30 a.m. from a designated point of the ‘Small Rock’ opposite the Mount Lavina Hotel. The distance of the race would be approximately 1 Km and the finishing line would be an area between the rocks and the Mount Lavinia Hotel beach.

Men and women in the age categories of 30-39,40-49,50-59,60-69 and 70 above will be eligible to participate in this special Masters race. Races for men and women will be swum concurrently. An entry fee of Rs 200 would be charged per competitor and there would be no limit as to the number of participants which a swimming club can enter for the race. Participating clubs with over five swimmers will be provided with a safety boat if they desire. The Secretary of the Rainbow Aquatic Club, former Sri Lanka Champion swimmer Julian Bolling noted that the participating clubs must ensure that the swimmers entered by them are competent and capable of completing the race and are physically in good health.

An overall trophy would be given to the club which obtains the highest points and a special certificate would be awarded to each swimmer who completes the race. A Jury of Appeal will be appointed by the organizers to inquire into any disputes and appeals and their decision will be final.
