The UNP will shortly unveil a new manifesto which can bring about an
economic miracle in Sri Lanka in the development sphere said UNP Deputy
Leader and Group leader of the UNP candidates contesting the General
Election from the Gampaha District.
He said the manifesto drawn up by a group of professionals under the
guidance of the party leader would also include a clause which would
create good governance and a society where justice and fairplay will
reign supreme.
Jayasuriya said this when he called on the Most Ven. Tibbotuwawe Sri
Siddhartha Sumangala Mahanayake Thera of the Malwatte Chapter at the
Malwatte Maha Viharaya in Kandy and received his blessings yesterday.
Jayasuriya said the UNP as a principled party always bowed its head
to the people’s verdict. The party had also advised all candidates
contesting the General Election to conduct a peaceful campaign in
keeping with election laws stipulated by the Commissioner of Elections.
The Malwatte Prelate in an anusasana said the present election system
based on the preferential votes was a stumbling block which created
animosity and in fighting within parties. If this system was changed at
least after the forthcoming election it would do the country much good.
