Sham demo opposite Lake House
A group of people calling themselves depositors in a Ceylinco Group
finance company shouted slogans against Lake House for reporting they
were to be refunded their deposits but they are yet to receive the
money. The protesters shouting slogans also alleged that Lake House
newspapers had written untruth about their deposits.
There is absolutely no truth in these wild allegations. The Lake
House Group of Newspapers reported the proceedings of the court cases
about the Ceylinco Group transactions. At no instance were any comments
added to the court reports.
Therefore the protest opposite Lake House by this group carrying
banners and placards was uncalled for and probably meant to deceive the
public that Lake House newspapers had any interest in the affairs of the
finance company concerned or companies. It could also be a politically
motivated move, as the same group was canvassing support to Sarath
Fonseka during the Presidential election.
It is well known that a number of these depositors had deposited
large sums of money due to the greed for earning higher interest rates
offered to them. Some depositors had also possessed monies that could
not be accounted for in the normal legitimate forms of earning and even
could be black money.
They could avail themselves of the legal redress available to them
through the judicial processes. Lake House newspapers would continue to
report the proceedings of the courts faithfully without any prejudice.
