Lagat wins 3,000m title

Two-time Olympic 1,500m medallist Bernard Lagat won the 3,000m at the US indoor athletics championships Saturday, with runner-up Galen Rupp happy to book his place in the World Championships team.

Lagat used a last-lap kick to win in 8min 12.60, beating Rupp (8:13.49) by almost a second.

"I made the team, that was my top goal," said Rupp, who secured his place on the team for the IAAF Indoor World Championships in Doha March 12-14.
