Arms and explosives recovered

Security Forces continuing search operations in the North unearthed a
large stock of arms and explosives left behind by the LTTE cadres in
Vellaimullivaikkal. Military Spokesman Major General Prasad Samarasinghe
said troops of the 68 Division launched an extensive combined operation
with a Police team in the Vellaimullivaikkal area on Sunday and
recovered a haul of arms and explosives.
He said the troops uncovered 21 RPG rounds, a suicide jacket, four
MPMG links, 500 MPMG ammunition, two MPMG ammo boxes with 1,440
ammunition, 72 of 12.7mm ammunition, 1,200 GPMG ammunition, nine
Bangalore torpedoes, five T-56 riffles, 20kg of C4 explosives, a 0.22mm
gun, five I-Com sets and a YUSU radio set.
Acting on information, Police recovered arms in a search operation
carried out in the Puthukudiyiruppu area on Sunday.
Police found four claymore mines, a remote control device, eight
electric detonators, a claymore stand and 2m of detonator cord. |
