Permission sought to use loudspeaker on Mahasivarathri day
The All Ceylon Hindu Congress (ACHC) has written to the IGP seeking
permission to use loudspeakers by Hindu Temples on Mahasivarathri day on
March 13.
In the letter to the IGP, ACHC General Secretary Kandiah Neelakandan
states:
"Mahasivarathri is the most important religious day in the calender
of the Hindus and it is observed by Hindus and in the Hindu Temples
throughout the country.
As the Federation of Hindu Religious Associations and Trustees of
Temples in Sri Lanka, we appeal to you to issue directions to Police
Stations to permit the use of sound system (loudspeakers/amplifiers) not
only in the inner yards of the Temples but also in the outer yards of
the Temples within the precincts of the respective Temples, as religious
poojas are being held every three hours and there will be devotees
waiting in the outer yards of the Temples as well for lack of space in
the inner yards.
Therefore, it is of paramount importance for the Temple authorities
to use the sound system throughout the night.
We therefore appeal to your goodself to issue this direction
immediately as Mahasivarathri falls on March 13." |
