SLAF opens another Pre school

.An International Pre school was opened by the First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa at the Sri Lanka Air Force Camp at Hingurakgoda yesterday. The pre school that existed earlier was upgraded to an International Pre school with the funds of the Sri Lanka Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit increasing the number of International Pre schools at Air Force camps to four.

English language will be used in this school on the directions of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The International Pre school registered 84 students of which 62 were children of Air Force personnel and the rest being the children of members of civil society living in the vicinity.

The construction of the pre school was made at a cost of Rs. 5.2 million and the construction was initiated in August last year.

This Pre school comprises well planned and well equipped class rooms, library, a music room, computers and play ground with all modern facilities for children to learn and grow up to meet their next phase of higher education with strength and confidence.

Already three International Pre Schools had been erected at the Air Force camps at China Bay, Katunayake and Diyatalawa. The opening ceremony was made spectacular by performances of the pre school children to Sinhala, English, Tamil songs and a dance of Sri Lanka aborigines (Veddas).

At this function several other welfare measures were taken place. Scholarships to schoolchildren were granted.

Interest free loans to needy personnel were distributed while several wheel-chairs were distributed among the needy Airforce personnel.

Chief of Defense Staff and Air Force Commander Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonatilleke, Sri Lanka Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit Chairperson Mrs Nelun Goonatilleke and Hingurakgoda Base Commander Group Captain Kapila Vanigasooriya attended at the occasion.
