Second stage of Norochcholai power plant opens March 10

The second stage of the Norochcholai coal power generation plant will be declared open by President Mahinda Rajapaksa on March 10, a Power and Energy Ministry source said yesterday. The first stage of the Norochcholai power plant was started in 2006.

The construction of the third stage begins in 2012 and is to be finalized in 2013. According to Ministry sources the complete power plant would add 900 megawatts of power to the National Grid, with these three stages.
