Ven Pelpola Vipassi Thera: serving Motherland his forte

A ceremony to felicitate Ven. Pelpola Vipassi Thera, Founder President, Pelpola Vipassi Foundation, President, World Congress of All Religions and Japan-Sri Lanka Cultural Friendship Association and Director General Japan-Sri Lanka Friendship Free Nursery school, for his national, religious and social service will be held at the Pelpola Vipassi Foundation headquarters, Borella on March 4, his birthday at 9.30 a.m. The ceremony presided by Mrs. Punothpon Kangrang, a spiritual leader in Thailand will be attended by members of the Maha Sangha and several VIPs including Ministers and former Parliamentarians.

Thera who has rendered vital service to foster Buddhism and child education while engaging in religious and social service for the past several years.

Earlier he had engaged in Buddhist missionary work in India holding various positions in the Maha Bodhi Society of India at Calcutta, Saranath and Mumbai. Ven. Pelpola Vipassi Thera had rendered valuable service to further cement bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Japan. Many Japanese benefactors had made lavish donations for religious, social as well as development activities in Sri Lanka due to his initiative.

The Peace pagoda at Sri Pada, Sasakawa hall in Colombo where Japanese langauge classes are held for the benefit of Sri Lankan youth are monuments for his religious and social service. He has also co-ordinated Japanese donations for several Accelerated Mahaweli Development projects including Samanalawewa and Moragahakanda reservoirs.

The Education, health and sports sectors in Sri Lanka too had benefited much through lavish donations arranged by Ven. Pelpola Vipassi Thera with the help of foreign donors. In March 2006 he organised a three day Navagraha Shanthikarma ritual at the Ratnapura Maha Saman Devalaya at his own expense to invoke blessings on the country for ending the war and return of peace.
