Market ends on mixed note

The indices at the Colombo Stock Exchange ended on a mixed note with the ASPI gaining 5 points (0.1 percent) to close at 3,774 while the MPI lost 12 points (-0.3%) to close at 4,332.

Turnover was high at Rs 1 billion with Richard Pieris and its subsidiary Maskeliya Plantations accounting for Rs 215 million in turnover.

Richard Pieris closed Rs 2.75 higher at Rs 66.00 on turnover of Rs 155 million and Maskeliya closed up Rs 3.50 to end at Rs 33.75.

Of the large cap companies, John Keells Holdings closed at Rs 169.25, down 75 cents, while Aitken Spence & Co closed at Rs 1,299.75 unchanged. Ceylon Theatres closed at Rs 55.00, down 50 cents and Hayleys closed unchanged at Rs 209.00. Of the plantation companies, Kotagala Plantations closed at Rs 51.75, up Rs 3.50, while Balangoda closed at Rs 38.00, up Rs 2.50.
