Mithun loses to Prabhagaran
Richard Dwight
The Sri Lankan reputed golfers, Mithun Perera and Prabhagaran who
came right onto top to be the undisputed winners of the All Indian
amateur golf team event in Pune India qualifying to play in the match
play format. Seasoned Mithun and Prabha easily won their first round
match.
From a Sri Lankan point it was disappointing to see both equally
competent compatriots, Mithun and Prabha drawn to play each other in the
second round. But that's how it goes, and the contending champions did
have to give off their best and, what mattered most eventually was that
Prabha clinched the issue over Mithun 3-2. Playing with confidence
Prabha went onto beat Moin Malik in the third round 4-3.
With three more days to go for the All India LG Amateur Golf
Championship, there are still quite a few to offer a challenge to the
2007 All India Amateur Golf Champion.
Prabhagaran, who won the All-India in Coinbatore back in 2007,
sounded confidence of a repeat performance this year. "I have been
playing well and had two tough matches today. I have known Mithun for a
long time and he is a very good player but I played better today, I
guess Moin is also a good player on the Indian Circuit and it was good
to get past him. Hopefully I can continue this form against Chikka, said
the 29-year-old, who plans to turn pro after this tournament.
Sixteen-year-old Chikka beat Prabhagaran in the semi-finals. |
