President inaugurates Nagamu Puravara project tomorrow

President Mahinda Rajapaksa will inaugurate the Nagamu Puravara
project to promote common amenities to the people living in tenement
gardens and housing schemes in the Colombo city tomorrow.
Over 50 percent of the population in the Colombo city live with
minimum basic facilities. The Government aims to uplift their living
standards through this project. Authorities have identified 1,492
housing schemes and tenement gardens belonging to various Government
institutions in Colombo city. More than 697 small and mega housing
schemes are maintained by the National Housing Development Authority.
This project which will initially be launched in 354 housing schemes
and tenement gardens where these people are living with less facilities
will be completed within five weeks.
The Government has laid special focus on the development of sanitary,
potable water and electricity facilities in housing schemes and tenement
gardens for dwellers’ benefit.
Sewerage systems and access roads are also to be developed under this
project.
The Government has already planned the cleaning and maintenance of
roads in and around the Colombo city and a proper plan is in place to
carry out maintenance activities in the housing schemes of low income
groups too. |
