Maneesha takes 100th wicket but Cambrians in command

Royal’s left arm spinner Maneesha Tantrigoda had the unique honour of completing one hundred wickets for the current season but Prince of Wales College Moratuwa took control by piling up a huge 304 for 9 in their first innings on the opening day of their inter school under 19 cricket tournament match which began at Reid Avenue yesterday.

Sparkling 114 by Chaturanga

Dynamic all rounder Chaturanga Kumara hit a sparkling 114 from just 86 balls with four sixes and a dozen of boundaries as St. Joseph’s College hit up a formidable 292 runs in their first innings on the opening day of their inter school under 19 cricket tournament match against St. Anthony’s College Kandy for the Murali-Vaas Trophy which began at Darley Road yesterday.

Kumara put on 180 runs for the fourth wicket along with Jaan Jayasinghe who hit a splendid 81 with the help of 12 boundaries.

Wesley College after being dismissed for 172 runs hit back strongly to reduce their opponents Nalanda College to 118 for 5 in their first innings on the opening day of their inter-school under 19 cricket tournament match which commenced at Campbell Park yesterday.

Wesley: 172 (Ashen Fonseka 38, Ranidu Suriyakumara 35, S. Gunawardena 5 for 25, Adeesha Nanayakkara 2 for 11, Dinuk Jayasinghe 2 for 44).

Nalanda: 118 for 5 (P. Wickremasinghe 34, Dinuk Jayasinghe 22 n.o, P. Dassanayake 25 n.o, S. Jayawardena 4 for 28).

Career best 241 by Dasun Shanaka

Middle order batsman Dasun Shanaka hit a career best 241 from 141 deliveries inclusive of 15 sixes and 20 boundaries as Maris Stella College Negombo piled up a mammoth 421 runs in their first innings to take major honours in their inter school under 19 cricket tournament match against Kingswood College, Kandy which ended in a draw at the University grounds yesterday.
