Rs 45,000 gold chain snatched from child

Thirukkovil Police arrested a suspect who snatched a gold chain worth Rs 45,000 from a three-year-old girl. The suspect is a resident of Kambuluvil 02 and had snatched the chain from the child at a wedding ceremony.

Mannar Police seized three hand grenades manufactured in a foreign country from an abandoned land near Uppukulam College while clearing the land on Thursday evening. Police Spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody said the Bomb Disposal Squad of the Thaladi Army Camp in Mannar defused the grenades. Mannar Police is investigating.

Meanwhile, two youth drowned in the Devahoowa tank, Galewela on Thursday evening.

The two are A. Asanka Seneviratne, 25 of Bulanawewa, Devahoowa and H. Sandaruwan Hettiarachchi, 15, of Reservoir Road, Beliyakanda, Galewela. The two faced with the tragedy when they went for a bath in the tank. Their remains were brought to the Matale Hospital.
